On October 21, the University of Barcelona was the setting for the III University Entrepreneurship Showcase, an initiative of the Xarxa Universitària d’Emprenedoria (XEU) organized on this occasion by the University of Barcelona and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. This event, held in the historic building of the UB, brought together students, entrepreneurs and experts from the university field with the aim of promoting entrepreneurial culture and fostering innovation.
The day began with an institutional welcome by Mercè Segarra, Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Transfer of the UB, and Climent Molins, Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship of the UPC. Accompanying this opening ceremony, Laia Arnal, Director General of Transfer and Knowledge Society of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and Jaume Baró, Secretary of the Department of Business and Competitiveness, also spoke. Claudio Cruz, director of StartUB!, was in charge of closing the opening session, giving way to a round table on the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship.
Under the title “El Camí de l’Entrepreneur: Reptes, Lliçons i Triomfs”, entrepreneurs such as Eduardo Feliu (Waitser), Laura Ventura (MeetOptics) and Aitor Mier (Omashu) shared their experiences with the attendees. Moderated by David Tomás, co-founder and CEO of Cyberclick, the participants discussed the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned in their professional careers.
One of the key moments of the event was the University Pitch Competition, in which startups from different XEU universities presented their innovative projects. THEKER Robotics, from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, won the prize thanks to its proposal for automating processes with robots and artificial intelligence. Ecomemb (Universitat de Girona), PlayComp! (Universitat de Barcelona), M.IA (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Scandraw SL (Universitat Rovira i Virgili), Fastfest (Universitat Ramon Llull), MiMIAT Health (Universitat de Lleida), Bioagora and CSA DENTAL (Universitat Abat Oliba CEU) also participated.
Three workshops were held during the day, designed to provide attendees with key tools on their entrepreneurial path. M. Ángeles García led the workshop How to Communicate, Nuria Masip shared advice on Personal Branding, and Rosaura Alastruey offered practical training on using LinkedIn as a professional platform.
The event concluded with a lunch in the gardens of the historic UB building, where participants were able to exchange ideas, impressions and establish contacts that could be key in their future entrepreneurial projects.
The III XEU University Entrepreneurship Showcase reaffirms the commitment of Catalan universities to promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, demonstrating that inter-university collaboration is essential for the development of new ideas and projects.
