On November 7, the 11th edition of the Innovation Day (I-Day) was held at the University of Barcelona, an event that brought together more than 150 students from different disciplines and branches of knowledge to propose solutions to challenges posed by leading entities in the field of health and social impact.
In this edition, the challenges were proposed by GSK, Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge and Fundació Félix Llobet, with the following challenges:
- GSK: How to ensure that all adults have access to the necessary vaccines?
- Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge: How to promote the rational use of antibiotics in the population?
- Fundació Félix Llobet: What actions can be taken to reduce school dropout and build solid educational networks that support youth?
During the day, participants were organised into multidisciplinary teams and worked with the support of facilitators and experts in the subject matter of each challenge. Through problem analysis, idea generation, prototyping and presentation sessions, the teams developed innovative solutions for each challenge.
A jury made up of professionals from the entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem of Catalonia selected the winning teams for this edition. The first prize was awarded to a team that tackled the Félix Llobet Foundation challenge with a game-based mentoring proposal. This approach not only encourages fun, but also acts as a powerful tool for social transformation.
This team will represent the University of Barcelona at the EIT Health Winner’s Event in Budapest on 28 and 29 November, where they will compete alongside the winners of the other 24 European editions of IDay.
The teams that achieved second and third place received a prize of €400 in vouchers for the La Illa shopping centre.
The Innovation Day of the University of Barcelona continues to be a valuable opportunity for students to develop their teamwork and practical applicability skills, and to generate innovative solutions to contemporary problems that impact society.
